thanx for the 3/1/69 reference, haven't heard it, could you direct me to another example that i might find on this archive?

no, Phil is not a jazz player, perhaps utilizes jazz characteristics, or maybe even somewhat "jazzy" (god i hate that term), but i have yet to have heard evidence that he has played and improvised across sets of changes that weave through various tonalities in sync with others at fast tempos on numerous selections...and i'm not talking about free form jams or classical woodshedding

to say Phil has gone beyond this is like saying a person who has not learned how to walk is capable of running...but to be fair, this was not your main theme to what was otherwise an excellent original post
